Do UK frogs croak, make noise, at this time of year ?

Last night at dusk I was down by the pond and in gaps in the noise from the M5 and me drilling I heard what sounded like frog croaks. Bare in mind I am deaf in one ear and therefore have no directional sense of hearing so I couldnt tell where the noise was coming from. I was all the more odd because I was drilling drainage holes for the newest in the wall plant pot. I wonder is the 'hammer' noise of the drill triggered a vocal duel.

I think you meant "it was all the more odd....." wheras you put (which I think is probably more accurate) "I was all the more odd" anyway that being so.. yes I find my frogs are still 'croaking' occasionally in the evenings. It is always nice to hear.

The frogs have calmed down a bit though. There's been one very big frog in the pond this year, so loud that for the longest time Martin & I thought one of our neighbours was keeping some very strange noisy exotic bird! Never heard a frog make such a racket, and of course he never did it when we were near the pond. Took ages before I worked out it was him.

have a light that goes all the way down the path so hopefully this won,t happen to often.

i have had many summer night s where the frog chorus was singing it was like being in the jungle.

but the frogs last year where monster 1s so this may explain why.

Anyanka, is/was it an american bull frog by any chance, if so you should probably kill it
