Neglected hebe

Postby kaz on Fri Jul 21, 2006 12:22 pm

I have 2 hebes planted out front and I forget they are there . Anyway, one in particular has bushed out too much (probably beyond repair). How do they react to a really harsh pruning?

in my experience they cope very well. Don't expect miracles this year though, but next year they should be fine. Re the shade over the pond - it should help reduce the blanket weed and the fish will enjoy the shade too. They can get sunburnt without shade. i'd be tempted to add barley straw to the pond too -either small organic bale or the liquid form- should help get the dreaded weed under control.

Thanks Linda... the bush is such an eye-sore at the moment, that it won't matter too much if it doesn't recover from harsh pruning. I do have other hebes heading in the same direction though :(

The shade over the pond has reduced the blanket weed... I have loads of fry! What about your pond... you've not mentioned it for ages :?

It is about time we saw some recent pics of your ponds Linda.
I cut a hebe back last year and it has grown really well this.
