Info on an anti-bacterial treatment

Postby chris11 on Tue Nov 29, 2005 12:54 pm

This might be of interest to the fish keepers amongst us. Last week I was looking for an anti-bacterial treatment as an alternative to Io-Sal to treat a bacterial infection in a pec fin. I came across an American product and so emailed for more info. This looks like a very potent treatment for bacterial problems in koi and goldfish, but also carries the dangers of using antibiotics.

''Chris,
Tricide-Neo does have a low level antibiotic in it,
Neomycin Sulfate. About 5% of the Tricide-Neo mix is
the antibiotic. Shipping for two 5 gallon packets of
Tricide-Neo using Global Priority Mail will cost $9.00.
If you want to make an order, we can send you an
invoice for shipping.

Thanks,
Mike Swanson''

...neomycin is from a group of antibiotics known as aminoglycosides. In humans it is used effectively against both gram positive and gram negative organisms. Again in humans it is used mainly for infections of the skin or mucous membranes...

Interesting. I'm dreading the day I have a problem with fish health in the big pond. With our previous koi pond, many moons ago, everything seemed easily manageable and we had a Q tank.
