Sad day

Postby retropwr on Sat Jul 25, 2009 7:05 pm

Doing a bit of tidying around the pond and while sitting on the filter box noticed a fish on top of a plant basket, hidden from sight from just about everywhere behind the plants.

On investigation it turned out to be the biggest fish in the pond and last remaining from the aquarium that the pond was originally built for, sadly she is no more. :(

I suspect that the amorous attentions of the chaps had forced her up there; it's been a bit hectic in the pond the last few days.

The only consolation is that most of the other fish are offspring of hers and the other aquarium originals.

Sorry to hear about your fish Richard. It's horrid how aggresive the males are during mating season... my tancho was chased relentlessly which led to her death. Thankfully I have a few females now so they share the burden of being bullied.

:( happnes to a lot of people, some years more males are ready to spawn than females so they tend to get a bit battered from so much attention, its normaly the larger older females that dont recover tho :(

you always know, they often look a bit shabby for a while, missing scales etc and hide up to rest a few days.
