Thalia deabalta - how hardy is it?

Postby aitch on Tue Jul 25, 2006 1:21 pm

Hi, fell for one of these at the Tatton RHS show and am trying to find out the hardiness of it as it's lovely :D (currently about 4-5 feet tall) and I don't want to lose it this winter!

Does anyone have any experience of this plant? Some websites say hardy to -7 degrees, others say take it indoors, others say as long as the roots don't freeze it's OK so I'm very confused! :smt102

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I have had one of these for 6-7 years, but i always lift it and pop it in an old bowl in the greenhouse for winter, it will survive a a mild winter, but i live in a frost trap that often goes down to -10 so i dont take the chance.

but having said that, the seeds seem to be able to survive outside, i have had several seedlings appear over the years, had two come up this year after that bad winter.....so?...dunno.
