The collapse of the Gunnera

Postby whis4ey on Mon Nov 19, 2007 1:30 pm

The giant Gunnera has collapsed for the year
If the weather continues to get colder it will soon begin its sleep until next April
This photograph gives you some idea of how high it was, as it was some 4 feet higher than the Teahouse behind it

Wow that was tall. Will you use the leaves to cover it's crown over the winter? I noticed that in Temple Newsam they have done that. I suppose it gives it a bit of cover from the elements until the leaves finally rot away. Making good use of the plant even when dying off for the winter seems an excellent idea.. :D
