How wonderful to see a flower on them. I think you are right, the recent warm weather must have made all the difference. I have never seen one before. Thanks for sharing it with us. We will all be envious.
What a beautiful flower - lucky you! I haven't bothered with water hyacinths this year as they have never flowered for me. In fact - I didn't even know what the flower looked like, so thanks for the piccies. Maybe next year I'll give them a go again.
The deeper sections of the flower have a look like an iris. It would be wonderful to see a whole section of them flowering like on water lilys. In fact my first flower of the year has opened on my water lily. It is yellow and is beautiful. It is one called Colonel Welsh if I remember rightly.
I'm still waiting for my lilys to flower this year, not even a bud in sight at the moment. I did trim the root thingy earlier in the year (before the leaves started to grow) as they were getting so big they kept floating and I couldn't keep them down without tying them to a brick, so maby this has knocked them back a bit.
It probably lasted a little longer than the water lilies though as mine only last a few days. I have a second bud coming up now though. It would be nice to get a few at once just for impact.
Re-water lilies - I've had at least half a dozen flowers so far. Each plant was divided and repotted during the clean-up at the end of May . One was in bloom when it was divided - the flowering part was repotted and simply carried on blooming. Unfortunately, I lost the red flowering one in the clean-up (I was told I had too many so some were given away with the excess goldfish). I now have two yellows and a white and they all have several buds coming through at the moment. I'm having to remove dead blooms and yellowing leaves every couple of days, but there are never more than two in flower at the same time.
