Not only have I just killed all those wasps and made 10 sparrows homeless I have now cut back a home and restaurant for caterpillars.
I have a big clump of the stripey grass in the pond which has been really beautifull but has all finished now and was very brown and needed cutting back to the base. It was only after cutting it back that we saw a caterpillar in the pond water, then another and another and on the wall lots of very tiny ones only a few millimetres long. We pulled out the ones we could see in the water so they didn't drown and it was then that I realised that they were all probably living on the grass as there were still a few green stems absolutely full of aphids. I cut off these and tried to put the caterpillars onto them but I fear I have again caused chaos. I have never seen caterpillars on the stripey grass before so I never thought to look for them. Now I feel awful. I just hope some survive. I will leave the leaves in a pile and hope for the best.
