Chinese Witch Hazel

Postby whis4ey on Wed Jan 24, 2007 8:42 pm

Is in fine bloom this year
It is very slow growing .. maybe only an inch or so every year. I bought it at a fair size and have had it now for maybe 10 years :)

Sam it is lovely. But so slow growing. I love to see the growth so I guess it wouldn't be any good in my garden, but perfect for your Japanese theme. How lovely to have it in full bloom now when there is not much colour available.
Is it the same plant that we get the medicinal witch hazel from  ? No doubt I have just shown my ignorance.

That's pretty Sam. I still have a rose in bloom... looked odd with the snow on it yesterday morning.

That would be unusual Kaz
However ... this is the normal time for the witch hazel to bloom. It is lovely when nothing else is there :)

Nice plant... might have to get one...

What is the polished wood thing in front of the witch hazel? It looks interesting. I also very much like the gate - it looks quite simple but so very distinctively Chinese.

Thanks for posting the photos, Billy.
..sure lightens my day - everything is covered in snow here at the moment and no visible colours on any plant at all

The Bench is so great, just lovely!

Thanks for that picture, Sam! Will have to show it to husband who has a Thing About Wood. That is the most beautiful garden bench I've ever seen.

It looks really smooth doesn't it. Just like you could slide on and off it. I love it.
